Tips for Using Humor in Motivational Speeches
Humor is a great icebreaker in speeches. It will connect you to your audience like nothing else – just so long as it is relevant to the topic in hand. But before you use any humor, be sure it really is funny. Firstly it should make you laugh, and then it should make your friends laugh. Only then can you use it in your motivational speech.
Relevance means it should have something to do with your subject matter. It must be used to enhance your topic in some way. If it can also be personal, springing from your own experience in the subject, then so much the better. Things that you once thought embarrassing can be spoken about with light-hearted humor once they have been relegated to the past.
It is poking fun at yourself that makes a connection with the audience. They laugh, but at the same time they sympathize because they know just how you felt at the time. Chances are they experienced the same thing, and so you are helping them to cope with it in their own lives when you can laugh at it in yours.
Be sure your humor is appropriate to your audience. Some people may be offended rather than amused by jokes that are racist or otherwise in bad taste. Choosing clean humor will ensure that it is not offensive to a mixed audience.
Humor and jokes should be kept short and to the point. While you know the back-story, it should not come out in your joke. If you waffle on, your audience will fall asleep and you won’t be asked to speak again. For instance the story may take place in a train. There’s no need to explain where the train was going or why you were on it. Just tell what happened when you were in that situation.

“Using Animation For Effective Marketing”
Over the last couple of decades the face of marketing has changed drastically. About a decade ago marketing underwent another transformation. Where paper advertisements and radio spots used to be, the internet has stepped in to become one of the most widely used advertising and marketing tools throughout the world. Currently more people are using the internet to dig up reviews, information, and products than ever before and the amount of potential clients you can reach is growing daily. With this being the case, how can you make your site, product, or company stand out from the thousands of websites available to be memorable in a client’s mind? This is where animation steps in.
A website complete with tasteful flash animations, informational videos, and interactive content allows visitors to engage with your site and remain there longer to discover more about your company. While a static website is the bare minimum for any business these days, it isn’t enough to win out over a competitor who took the time to include an animation or two on their site. What is needed now is an aesthetically designed, visually appealing, and easy to navigate user interface that will provide a memorable and positive user experience.
Some forms of animation that are used to demonstrate an idea or illustrate a concept and which capture a visitor’s interest are:
2D Animation
3D Character Animation
3D Modeling & Product Design
3D Walkthrough Animation
3D Mobile, Online and PC Games
The 5 Commandments of Effectively Using Humor in any Presentation
I couldn’t believe I was going to open my presentation with that joke. Me, of all people! Yet, there I was. With my heart pounding in anticipation… I was about to bound onto the platform and speak in front of over 250 people. Not only that, I was going to open my presentation with a bit I had just come up with!
Before I continue, you need to know the back-story. I was asked to emcee AWAI’s 2009 FastTrack to Success Bootcamp Awards Ceremony.
Prior to that event, Michael Masterson was giving an important presentation to attendees on the “peer review” process. In a nutshell, it is a rating system used to improve a sales letter. The goal is to boost the headline, lead, and transitions so the copy snaps, crackles, and pops off the page.
As I wandered around the room during Michael’s presentation, I couldn’t help but notice that some attendees were struggling to grasp exactly how the peer review should be done.
When Michael’s presentation ended, we broke for lunch. Thirty minutes later, the Awards Ceremony started. I took the microphone, and with a straight face, said to the attendees:
“News Flash: Michael Masterson is proud to announce that, four minutes ago, he created a brand-new rating system for copywriters. It’s called ‘The Peer Review Within the Peer Review’!” (Audience LAUGHS.)
“After you give your rating… the group then rates your rating. That’s right, folks… the rating never ends.
“When it’s all over, you will be so confused — you’ll most likely leave the industry. (HUGE burst of laughter — a cathartic release — and applause from the audience.) I had struck comedic gold.
The Debate Of Using Free Animation For Your Website
Animation is the rapid display of a sequence of images in order to create an illusion of movement. The most common method of presenting animation is in a motion picture or some type of video program. Not so long ago, if you went on the internet and entered “free animation” as your search, there may have been little to choose from, if anything at all. Today, however, you will see pages and pages of results.
Do free animations mean that no one gets credited with the work or that the person and/or company that developed it have agreed to basically give it away? Works granted as a copyright after January 1, 1978 are protected for the lifetime of the author or creator and for a period of 50 years after his or her death. What about these gif animations, cartoon animations, 2D animations and 3D animations that are found on the internet? Are they really free?
If you come across a web site that claims to have royalty free animation files for download, then you may want to check into it further. It is very tempting when surfing the web to see something that you like and just automatically download it or right-click and “save as.”
Or you may see something interesting and decide to post it on your site or blog. However, don’t ignore the part about linking any of the free computer animations back to them, to give them credit.
