Inspirational motivational speakers become indispensable when meetings become events where motivation is in short supply; the underachievers are pulled up; and competitors are lauded grudgingly for their successes. Keynote laughter speakers lighten up the atmosphere and put things in perspective in business meetings where big monetary figures are put on the tables; falling graphs are dissected to tiny atoms to be analyzed; and achievements are celebrated briefly only to facilitate the announcement of the next set of ambitious and sometimes over-ambitious business goals.

Meetings are seriously starved of humor. Insiders that are speaking at the meeting can never have the hold over the audience as trained corporate keynote speakers can, because they are always perceived either as bosses or sub-ordinates. In case the speakers from within the organization are enjoying their speeches, well in all probability, they alone have the privilege of doing so while the rest of the audience is struggling precariously to stay awake.

For meetings that do not have professional motivational humorous speakers, the typical scene is: the speakers and non-speakers as well as the achievers and the non- achievers all wait for the crucial lunch break, coffee break and the conclusion of the meeting. These breaks seem to be the highlight of the meetings with the intervening periods filled with rising emotions, boredom, drifting, and erotic thoughts. Ironic! But it’s true. Of course there are exceptions to his type of scenario. But the scenario described above is generally the rule.

Moreover, when fervent efforts at stifling yawns, changing sitting postures umpteen numbers of times, routine talks that seem like drones, and unenthusiastic applause; and all these laced with a staple solemnity seems to be the characteristics of a typical meeting, funny speakers become the desiderata in the scheme of things.  Read more...

Humor is a great icebreaker in speeches. It will connect you to your audience like nothing else – just so long as it is relevant to the topic in hand. But before you use any humor, be sure it really is funny. Firstly it should make you laugh, and then it should make your friends laugh. Only then can you use it in your motivational speech.

Relevance means it should have something to do with your subject matter. It must be used to enhance your topic in some way. If it can also be personal, springing from your own experience in the subject, then so much the better. Things that you once thought embarrassing can be spoken about with light-hearted humor once they have been relegated to the past.

It is poking fun at yourself that makes a connection with the audience. They laugh, but at the same time they sympathize because they know just how you felt at the time. Chances are they experienced the same thing, and so you are helping them to cope with it in their own lives when you can laugh at it in yours.

Be sure your humor is appropriate to your audience. Some people may be offended rather than amused by jokes that are racist or otherwise in bad taste. Choosing clean humor will ensure that it is not offensive to a mixed audience.

Humor and jokes should be kept short and to the point. While you know the back-story, it should not come out in your joke. If you waffle on, your audience will fall asleep and you won’t be asked to speak again. For instance the story may take place in a train. There’s no need to explain where the train was going or why you were on it. Just tell what happened when you were in that situation.  Read more...

Motivation is a funny thing, influenced by a broad range of factors. The bottom-line purpose of a motivational humorous speech is change. After all, if everything were running exactly as it should, all at its very best, then there would be no need to consider a motivational speaker. In order for a motivational humorous speech to be effective, however, it must be heard and the listeners must be engaged. This is the special talent that motivational humorous speakers bring to the table, the one that can allow them to change the world – one laugh at a time.

Humor is a wonderful tool, and when wielded by skilled motivational humorous speakers, it can be a powerful means of building the motivation and momentum necessary to achieve goals. While certainly the most obvious benefits to this approach – engaging the audience and ensuring that the message is actually heard – are very important, there are many other benefits, as well.

People work better and achieve more when they feel good about themselves and what they are doing. It is important, then, to provide direction and request changes in a manner that gets the message across in a palatable fashion, one that, instead of sowing blame and division, draws people together. And, what better way to come together than shared laughter?

Rather than a speech filled with motivational platitudes that have been heard so often as to become almost meaningless, motivational humorous speakers present concepts and ideas that will be remembered and thought about after all is said and done. Funny. Would that be the first word to come to mind if you were told that you were going to be hearing a speech by a motivational speaker? It’s not likely. After all, we’ve all come across motivational speakers in one form or another (even if it was just on television) and funny isn’t really what they’re known for. Instead, the image drummed up by the phrase “motivational speaker” is one of a man in a business suit who is clearly trying to sell you something that you don’t need, preying upon your sense of inadequacy in some area to schmooze you into buying his product or service.

But this is not always the case. Not every motivational speaker is the upscale equivalent of the door-to-door salesman. In fact, there are motivational humorous speakers out there who make use of a good sense of humor and the charm that they have with crowds to get you laughing and enjoying yourself. Attending an event by one of these speakers is almost like going to see a stand-up comedian. Sure, it might cost a little bit more, but you’re actually a lot more likely to take something away from the experience.

The thing is that if you’re going to see a motivational speaker, it’s probably because you’re at least somewhat interested in his or her product or service. Maybe you just want to get productivity up in the office and you’re hoping this person can inspire some ideas among your group. Or perhaps you’re working through a difficult time personally and you need a lift. But you enter the room with a wary eye because you’re afraid that you’re going to be sold something. Motivational humorous speakers are just that, funny speaking professionals who entertain a crowd. As performers their job is to organize what they’re going to say and then to deliver the lines to the audience in an entertaining, energetic fashion. Still they need a way to find gigs in which to perform. This is where the meeting planners become so essential to the motivational humorous speaker.

The meeting planners are the proper business types- always on the move, constantly talking on their cell phones, putting through a sale and no doubt organizing their next meeting conference. Hired by businesses it is their job to find a meeting place that fits the goals and style of the organization they are helping. From the very beginning they sit down with the company and talk about what is needed before putting the plan into action, locating the conference rooms, alongside setting up lodgings, food, beverages, telecommunications, presentation tools and the most important element of the process, hiring the right the speaker- in this case a humorous speaker.

Therefore, the motivational humorous speaker relies on the meeting planner to find work. However, there is much more to it than that. Like a film director relying on the business sense of a producer to provide an environment in which he can create, the speaker and planner develop a similar bond. There is nothing worse to a motivational humorous speaker’s confidence than a room full of miserable faces after he’s told a joke and nothing more damaging to his career than humor inappropriate to the audience in front of him. Nevertheless, all this is avoided if the speaker gives his heart and soul to the meeting planner, more or less putting himself in his hands. In other words, the planner needs to know the speakers persona as a performer. Therefore if the motivational humorous speaker is the attraction to a conference the planner can work the perfect venue to fit his style- doesn’t like people sitting to close to you when you perform. – Well we’ll make sure there moved back 10 feet.
